I acknowledge with humility and respect that I live, work and play on stolen land, the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishinaabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee, and the Huron-Wendat peoples. Tkaronto is home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples from across Turtle Island. This sacred territory has been a site of human activity for well over 15,000 years and was the subject of the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, an agreement to peaceably share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes.

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action were not a conclusion, they were a beginning. That the vast majority remain unimplemented is not an oversight. It is a political choice, and a shameful one. Settler governments have deprioritized this work consistently and consequentially, and Indigenous communities continue to bear the cost. I support Land Back - the return of land, jurisdiction, and self-determination to Indigenous Peoples, not as a slogan but as a material and political commitment.

I also name the connection between Indigenous land dispossession here and the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people, a Semitic people whose land, culture, and lives are being actively destroyed by the settler-colonial project of Zionism. Palestinians have an inalienable right to return to their land. These struggles are linked not by coincidence but by the same logic: that some people's presence is expendable, that land can be taken by force, and that erasure of the people it displaces is not a consequence but the goal. Liberation is interconnected, and so is the work of pursuing it. Healing is not separate from justice, it is part of it. And therapy is political.
